EdPlus at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a motivated, self-directed Software Engineer to join our high-performing Solutions Engineering team. We are looking for a developer who is ready to integrate Drupal as a true decoupled CMS; exposing content via JSON:API and GraphQL data formats, and build applications using modern web frameworks, leveraging JAMstack concepts. The utility of Drupal will be confined to using it as a pure content repository without presentation layers. Working closely with stakeholders, units, SEO, QA, and analytics teams to guide the technical landscape of our products to establish standards and integrations across projects in creating efficiencies and scalable solutions. The engineering team is responsible for creating solutions and enhancing our current technology stack for a variety of learner’s challenges as part of an innovative environment refining how users engage with higher education. Working collaboratively in diverse teams, creates forward-thinking and thoughtful experiences ensuring web products support ASU and EdPlus overall strategy and goals.

Essential Duties

  • Design, develop and support high quality technology services.
  • Ability to communicate with cross-functional teams about various engineering topics such as detailed design, APIs, etc.
  • Have technical discussion with team members to understand product scope.
  • Maintain technical currency and take advantage of professional development opportunities.
  • Guide effective documentation and communication of engineering processes to both EdPlus engineers, student engineers and contractors.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots errors and/or problems with web based applications.
  • Working on a collaborative, fast-paced team and with other experts across other
  • disciplines.
  • Demonstrate skills with a variety of development methodologies and ability to adapt these to the needs of an organization using Agile processes.
  • A passion for understanding the user, and a strong communicator of the users perspective in building the best solutions for the most meaningful problems.
  • Ability to complete projects with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Adhere to software development lifecycle principles and standard methodologies.
  • Contribute to the larger IT community across the University.
  •  Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering or related field; OR, four (4) years’ experience providing related information technology services, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in Javascript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3.
  • Experience with at least one major JS library / framework such as VueJS, ReactJS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of both front-end and back-end web technologies: HTTP(S), XML, JSON, JSONP, AJAX, REST APIs and GraphQL.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NodeJS and its ecosystem, content management systems (Drupal, WordPress), and web services.
  • Familiarity with static site generators (eg. Gridsome, NuxtJS, Gatsby).
  • Experience with responsive design frameworks such as bootstrap or material design.
  • Evidence of AWS Tooling (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, Dynamodb, Appsync) and serverless application frameworks
  • Evidence of effective communication, using problem-solving skills and build positive working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Evidence of a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.

Dreamscape Learn (DSL) is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, merging the most advanced experiential pedagogy with the entertainment industry’s best cinematic storytelling to deliver unique virtual reality (VR) and 2D labs and full course experiences which are demonstrably efficacious, readily scalable and emotionally engaging. These VR labs combine the emotional power of Hollywood storytelling, the visceral excitement of theme park rides, and an extraordinary mix of full body tracking and interactivity to create stories and worlds that push the limits of what is possible in virtual reality.

We’re seeking a full-time, creative, self-motivated, and collaborative 3D Animator Jr to join our team. This opportunity could be an ideal fit if you possess a strong passion for creating and delivering cutting-edge educational products and solutions, encompassing virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Under general direction, the 3D Animator Jr. will take on a variety of tasks, both independently and in collaboration with other artists, game developers, project leads, and other stakeholders, using emerging technology tools and artificial intelligence to create new story-driven experiences. This individual will work on a team to create high quality key-frame animations.

Essential Duties

  • Create high quality key-frame animations using Maya.
  • Work in a real-time game engine using Unity
  • Work closely with Lead Animator and the production team to support animation needs.
  • Discuss and address notes given by project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with others to come up with creative solutions, identify constraints, and to provide feasibility recommendations.
  • Work in a fast and iterative manner on animation concepts.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in a related field and one (1) year of experience in 3D animation, Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience in professional 3D Animation in Film, Feature or series animation production.
  • Experience in professional VR development.
  • Experience applying motion capture to enhance performances.
  • Experience rigging 3D models for animation.
  • Evidence of proficiency in Maya and/or Unity and/or Unreal Engine
  • Experience with Timeline animation in Unity.
  • Experience in Previs, Layout, Camera, and Cinematography.
  • Experience with animation pipelines.
  • Experience with Shotgrid, JIRA, Confluence.
  • Experience with Motion Graphic and/or FX animation.
  • Evidence of strong acting skills.
  • Experience with version control software such as Perforce, Plastic, SVN, Git, Bit Bucket.
  • Experience with Project Management Tools such as Jira, Shotgun, Trello, etc.
  • Evidence of basic scripting skills (e.g. C#, Python, MELscript etc).
  • Evidence of ability to prioritize and manage multiple milestones and projects efficiently.
  • Evidence of ability to adapt to changing creative direction.
  • Evidence of ability to work independently, and in a team environment.
  • Must include an animation demo reel web link.
