This program was designed by EdPlus at ASU and it uses the edX platform, a nonprofit online learning destination. The Global Freshman Academy focuses on offering first year college-level courses to students, for academic credit.
The need for a global education program is a priority to EdPlus at ASU. With Global Freshman Academy, everyone regardless of their past academic performance has a chance to try on college without an application hurdle and the opportunity to pay for credits after course completion.
In an increasingly competitive knowledge-based economy, earning a degree has never been more necessary to success. It has also never been less affordable. As today’s learners confront new barriers to higher education access, the need for a reimagined framework has escalated.
9% of students from the lowest income quartile graduate with a bachelor's degree by age 24, compared to 77% for the top income quartile.
"I loved that I could take it anywhere, in Dubai and Phoenix and that the classes directly translate to ASU credits in my transcript. I could easily fit coursework into my schedule," Morgan Richards, ASU Global Freshman Academy student
Global Freshman Academy started with a vision to give everyone access to America’s most innovative school, regardless of their academic past. The GFA project marks the first time the edX platform is being harnessed to help students earn credit on a global scale. EdPlus at ASU remains committed to creating an affordable and streamlined option for all global students.
